Tonya has 6 six sisters that have all had breast cancer, some had it multiple times, and sadly two passed away. Tonya shares her powerful story of struggle, acceptance and empowerment as she opens up about undergoing prophylactic mastectomy. As Tonya shares, “When you’ve had six sisters that have had breast cancer, an exam is not just an exam, it’s almost like a diagnosis.”

Part of FreshFly’s ongoing series of patient stories for Breastcancer.org, this short film was captured and created during the COVID 19 Pandemic. The interview was filmed remotely using sophisticated camera technology, and b-roll was captured safely on location using talent stand-in to portray Tonya’s story.
