Soldier songs

To my eye, this production of “Soldier Songs” ranks with some of the best vintage work in filmed opera… it also belongs in a conversation with adaptations of operas by noted film directors, such as Powell and Pressburger’s “The Tales of Hoffmann” and Ingmar Bergman’s “The Magic Flute.”

Seth Colter Walls, The New York Times

Opera, rock, and film collide in David T. Little's exploration of the life of the Soldier. Based on interviews with veterans of five wars, Soldier Songs boldly examines the impact of trauma, the exploitation of innocence, and the difficulty of expressing war's painful truths.

Opera Philadelphia is breaking new ground with its daring channel of operas reimagined for the screen, and they turned to FreshFly for help with their most ambitious project yet. The opera was filmed on location with nuance and insight by Director of Photography Phil Bradshaw. FreshFly also ushered the complex project through post production, providing skilled artistic and technical guidance to the Opera Philadelphia team.
